InterYIT Past Chair

Joel Nation (2011 - 2013)

Joel Nation from the Australian Computer Society (ACS) was the first InterYIT Chairman. He was a member of ACS Young IT Board, then became its Deputy Director and also was its Director in 2011 and 2012. He created the YITCon branding for the annual Young ICT Professionals Conference of ACS. As a member of the founding group that had discussions with IFIP on developing an International Young IT Board (InterYIT) within IFIP, he took on the position as its first Chairman. The idea of InterYIT came during IFIP World Computer Congress (WCC) 2010 in Brisbane Australia where Joel Nation and then ACS Young IT Director Dr. Yasas Vishuddhi Abeywickrama had initial conversations with then IFIP President Leon Strous. As its first Chairman, Joel Nation laid a strong foundation for it together with IFIP Board and IFIP General Assembly, to integrate IFIP InterYIT into the IFIP constitution and made it a part of the overall organisation.


Dr. Yasas Vishuddhi Abeywickrama (2014 - 2016)

Dr. Yasas Vishuddhi Abeywickrama took over as IFIP Chairman in February 2014. He was a member of the group that initially drew up the idea of InterYIT. Dr. Abeywickrama has a history of youth leadership in IT. He was a part of the Young IT Board of the Australian Computer Society from 2006 to 2010, and was its Director in 2009 and 2010. He gave leadership to organising International Young IT Conferences in 2009 and 2010 in Sydney and Brisbane respectively. As InterYIT Chairman, he led a board that had representation from across the world. He gave leadership to make InterYIT an active body globally. Under his leadership, InterYIT Conference 2015 was organised in South Korea as a part of IFIP World Computer Congress. He also introduced IFIP International Young IT Awards, and it was run for the first time globally in 2016 and the awards ceremony was held in Sydney Australia. He has also presented to various professional groups and conferences in-person in Malaysia, India, Singapore, South Korea, Japan & China to communicate the IFIP message on youth. Dr. Abeywickrama also developed an InterYIT partnership with SEARCC. In 2014, InterYIT worked with the World Conference on Youth, under his guidance.


Prof. Tom Crick (2017)

Prof Tom Crick has academic interests in research/policy interface: education and skills, science and innovation policy, digital transformation, public service innovation and skills/infrastructure for the digital economy. He was the Chair of the BCS Young Professionals Group (2011-1016); with 20,000 members, YPG is the largest membership group within BCS and is dedicated to supporting and representing those in the foundation years of their computing/technology career. With this background, he provided leadership for InterYIT for a period of 1 year.
